Welcome to my Corner

My "corner" is focused on Greenwood Hill Farm, a Merino Sheep operation located in Massachusetts. We raise our sheep primarily for their wool which we have processed into soft, itch free knitting and crocheting yarn in all natural colors. Towards the end of a career in the Navy, my wife, Andrea, and I purchased our long sought historic farm and began our current oddesy over 30 years ago.

Back In The Saddle

Sorry for the long delay in updating this blog.  We have been busy here on the farm since the first snowfall of the 2013-2014 winter.  It seemed that every other day was "get up and do it again"!  The sheep seemed not to notice the severe cold and long days closed into the barn.  The shepherd not so much!

It is approaching mid-April and that means the Worcester (and Eastern Mass) group have started the process of setting up next year's program.  When all the speakers are committed and the venues set, we get the site updated so you will be able to plan for next season with us.  "SPOILER ALERT"!  The November meeting will bring back the folks from Lemay and Sons of Goffstown, NH (Paul, Sr. and Rick) and their presentation on how to cut up a lamb for the freezer.  Two years ago this was a very popular event and feedback has been strong to do this program again.  Do not miss this program!

As summer approaches so does the spring lambing, fiber festivals and livestock expositions.  Gore Place in Waltham, MA is this month; Google them for dates and details.  It is a one day event focused on the shearing of the flock, herding dog demonstrations and lots of good food.  The first weekend in May is the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival.  This is one of the largest festivals east of the Mississippi with a great sheep show, a parade of Breeds and hundreds of fiber vendors.  Mother's day weekend finds us traveling north to the New Hampshire Sheep and Wool Festival held at the Deerfield Fairgrounds in Deerfield.  This is a good venue with plenty of parking and lots of food vendors.  On the Saturday and Sunday of the Memorial Day weekend the Massachusetts Sheep and Wool Festival can be found in Cummington, MA.  The Cummington Fairgrounds are located in the scenic hills of Western Mass........ take Rt 9 out and watch for the signage.
